Seasonal Kayaks, Canoes Now Renting at Lake Springfield

Seasonal canoe and kayak rentals are available beginning this Memorial Day weekend, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, May 28 –Tuesday, May 31 at Lake Springfield Park Boathouse and Marina, 2312 S. Kissick Road.

After that, canoe and kayak rentals are available from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., seven days a week, Wednesday, June 1 through the end of September. Either can be rented for $10 per hour and $30 for a four-hour rental. Renters must be 18 years of age, with minors accompanied by an adult. All participants must sign a waiver and wear provided life jackets. All rented vessels must be returned to the Boathouse by 6 p.m. (returned by 5 p.m. through next Tuesday). The facility offers 17' canoes, single kayaks and two-person kayaks.

Paddlers will use the James River Linear Park Water Trail as the trail route, which runs approximately six miles one-way, along the Springfield Nature and Conservation Center and Galloway Creek, to Crighton Beach.

The retail shop offers snacks, soft drinks, ice, minnows, worms, tackle, fishing and hunting licenses, and other sundry items. A community room is available for rent, and features seating for 80 with an attached full kitchen, flexible hours and a view of the lake from the room and 1,450-square-foot deck.
