Adults & Youth Team Up for Family Scramble

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will host its annual Family Scramble at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 18 at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.

The event involves two-member teams (one adult and one youth, 7-17 years of age) participating in an Amazing Race-style competition. The Family Scramble will test endurance with bicycling, walking/running, canoeing and basic orienteering. There also will be some mystery events that will be kept a secret until race day.

Check-in starts at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m. The race takes anywhere from one to three hours to complete. The cost for the race is $30 per team of two and will include a free T-shirt for the competitors and trophies for the top three teams in each age group. The groups will be broken up by age, with 7-12 year-olds in one group and 13-17 year-olds in the other.

All participants must bring their own bicycles and helmets. Road bikes are not recommended. It is also suggested that all teams bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellant with DEET, and a backpack.

Pre-registration is required. Forms can be found at www.parkboard.org and can be faxed to 417-837-5904 or dropped off at Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage Road. For more information, call 417-837-5900.
