Police Join Forces for Holiday DWI Checkpoints

In Missouri, 30% of all traffic fatalities are related to impaired driving. In 2010, 234 people were killed and 957 were seriously injured in crashes related to alcohol.

In Springfield, the SPD takes drunk driving very seriously and will be joining other agencies for DWI checkpoints from July 1st – 4th. The SPD will also participate in DWI saturation patrols throughout the city during the same time frame.

Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of driving privileges, sentenced to use ignition interlocks and increased insurance rates. Financial losses include attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work and the potential loss of a job.

Drunk driving is not worth the consequences – remember if you drink and drive, you lose.
