DWI Checkpoint Planned This Weekend

In Missouri, 30% of all traffic fatalities are related to impaired driving. In 2010, 234 people were killed and 957 were seriously injured in crashes related to alcohol.

In 2010, the Springfield Police Department made 1200 DWI related arrests. As of July 2011, the SPD has made 755 DWI related arrests. The SPD takes drunk driving very seriously and will be conducting a DWI Checkpoint during the weekend of August 12, 2011.

Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of driving privileges, sentenced to use ignition interlocks and increased insurance rates. Financial losses include attorney fees, court costs, loss of your job. The most serious consequence can result in the loss of human life.

Remember – If you drink and drive, you will lose.
