Suspect Arrested in Kristi Kimes Death

The Springfield Police Department arrested a man for Second Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. Kelly L. Kimes, 51, was arrested after an investigation into the death of Kristi Kimes, which occurred on 08/08/2011 at the Taco Bell located at 3511 W. Chestnut Expressway.

During the course of the investigation, Springfield Police Detectives discovered that Kelly was the ex-husband of Kristi. Further investigation led detectives to Kelly’s residence, where he voluntarily went to SPD Headquarters. Upon arrival at SPD Headquarters, he appeared to become extremely ill. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

Kelly remained under constant police observation at a local hospital, until a Probable Cause Statement was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office late this afternoon

On August 11, 2011 the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office filed the charges of Second Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action (1131CR05429), against Kelly Kimes this afternoon. His bond has been set at $500,000.00. Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson and Assistant Prosecutor Casey Clark can be contacted regarding the prosecution of the case.
