Dog Swim to Close Public Pool Season

The Springfield Citizens Dog Park Committee and Springfield-Greene County Park Board will host the 8th annual Dog Swim event from 4 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Fassnight Park Pool, 1300 S. Campbell Ave. Before draining the public pool for the season, the dog swim will allow an opportunity for unleashed dogs to play and swim freely in the fenced pool area.

The cost for the event is $8 per dog, including one handler; additional spectators are $3. Limit one dog per handler. Registration is required for all dogs. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged by September 1, however day-of registration will be available.

Humans will not be allowed into the pool with their dogs. Proof of vaccinations for Rabies, Parvo, Distemper and Bordetella is required for all dogs to participate. For more information, call the Park Board Office at 417-864-1049 or visit www.parkboard.org.

Presenting sponsor Pet Warehouse will have towels and treats for participating dogs. Proceeds benefit the Cruse Dog Park, 2100 W. Catalpa St.

Also, the annual DogFest event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24 (Rain date: noon – 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25), at Chesterfield Park, 2511 W. Republic Road. The all-canine related festival features commercial vendors, non-profit organizations and demonstrations, along with the popular Dachshund Dash. Pre-registration deadline for Dachshund Dash is September 16. The event is free and open to the public. All dogs must be on leash.
