Free DogFest on Sept. 24 Features Dachshund Dash

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Citizens Dog Park Committee will present the 9th Annual DogFest event from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, at Chesterfield Park, 2511 W. Republic Road. (Rain date is Noon – 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25).

The free event features all-canine related commercial vendors and non-profit organizations with information and products, including clothing, photography, supplies and treats.

The 7th Annual Dachshund Dash, the most entertaining race on four legs, will be held throughout the day as well, with several heats of racing. This popular event features more than 30 Dachshund dogs. The featured races, 'Best of the Best' and 'Best of the Worst' are scheduled to begin at approximately 2 p.m. The pre-registration deadline has occurred and no additional Dachshunds will be added.

The Dog Fest event is free and open to the public. All dogs must be on leash. Proceeds benefit the Cruse Dog Park, 2100 W. Catalpa St.

Cruse Dog Park, Springfield's only off-leash dog park was dedicated in November, 2008. Since then, more than 1,700 dogs have been registered for the six-acre park. A fee of $25 per dog is required for 12 months of access to the Park, with a two dog limit per handler. Proof of vaccinations from a licensed veterinarian for Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, and Bordetella are required for the registration process. Applications also are available by visiting the Park Board Office, 1923 N. Weller, or by calling 417-864-1049 during normal business hours.

Daily passes are available for $10 per dog, per day, with a $10 "fob" deposit at both Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Road, and the Park Board Office during normal business hours. Visit the Dog Park's Web site at or at
