Mustang Walkway Now Open

The new Mustang Walkway pedestrian bridge spanning Kearney Street is now open. The bridge is located in the 2200 block of West Kearney Street near Ed V. Williams Elementary School.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held next week. It will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, on the grounds of the school. It will involve Williams Elementary students, who named the new bridge after a school-wide vote this spring. The entire student body of Williams will walk across the bridge and back to the school for the ceremonial opening.

The bridge was constructed at a cost of approximately $1 million. Funding comes from the 1/8-cent Sales Tax for Transportation. Hartman & Company is the contractor for the project. The new bridge is compliant with ADA requirements, and several new parking spaces for parents to pick up students have been installed along Roosevelt Avenue on the south side of the structure.
