Zoo SPOOKTACULAR Offers Family Fun
Ghosts and goblins will invade Dickerson Park Zoo for the annual Halloween SPOOKTACULAR, Oct. 21 through Halloween night, from 6:30-9 p.m., each evening.
Halloween SPOOKTACULAR is the largest on-grounds fundraising event for Friends of the Zoo, and proceeds benefit the zoo's conservation education programs and field conservation support. Halloween SPOOKTACULAR is sponsored by Simmons First National Bank with in-kind support and donations by McDonald's, Walmart and local media.
New spooky sights for 2011 include:
- The Enchanted Forest
- Owl Hollow
- Monster Mash Dance Party
- Alien Invasion
The Gigantic Pumpkins, Totem Village and the Secrets of Egypt interactive area are back for 2010. As in years past, guests will enjoy hundreds of jack-o-lanterns lighting part of the path and the Festival of Scarecrows. The pumpkins are carved by local elementary school children, and area scouting and youth organizations create the scarecrows.
The "Hometown Heroes" area celebrates its fifth year at SPOOKTACULAR recognizing area law enforcement and public safety agencies. Children's activities include free carnival games and an inflatable bounce, and candy treats for children ages 1-12. For an additional $2 per person, children and adults can take an after-dark ride on the Titus Express train or go for a spin on the Witch's Kettle carnival ride.
Tickets are $7 at the gate for everyone age one and older. Beginning mid-October, discounted advance tickets can be purchased for $6 each at McDonald's restaurants in Springfield, Ozark, Nixa, Republic and Willard. Children younger than age one are admitted free. Friends of the Zoo members receive discounted admission at the gate ($3 per person).
Dickerson Park Zoo is open for daytime visits daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Daytime admission fees are $8 for adults and teenagers, and $5 for children ages 3-12. Admission to Halloween SPOOKTACULAR is not included with daytime admission fees. For more information about the zoo or its events, visit www.dickersonparkzoo.org or call 417-864-1800.
