New Turn Lane Coming to Battlefield at Glenstone

The City of Springfield's Department of Public Works will oversee work on the construction of an eastbound-to-southbound right turn lane on Battlefield Road at Glenstone Avenue. This work is expected to begin by mid-morning on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, and should end by Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, weather permitting.

The nature of the work will require occasional closure of the right-in-right-out drive for the shopping center on the southwest corner of Battlefield and Glenstone. The traffic signal located just to the west (between Glenstone and Delaware Aveune) will remain in operation throughout the construction activity, providing access for the shopping center.

This new right turn lane will help with congestion at the intersection of Battlefield and Glenstone, which sees more than 65,000 vehicles per day, of which approximately 4,000 make this right turn onto southbound Glenstone Avenue. Right turn lane improvements were a frequent request on the City's online Transportation Survey, conducted between June 22 and July 29, 2011, and included write-in requests at this intersection.

The right turn lane construction, which is part of the larger Battlefield Medians project, is funded through the 2009-2013 1/8-cent Sales Tax for Transportation. Kerans Construction of Galena will perform the work under contract with the City of Springfield.
