Health's Public Information Position Changing Hands
The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is pleased to announce that a new Public Information Administrator will join the department beginning October 31, 2011. Mike Brothers, currently serving as the Co-Interim Director for the City of Springfield's Department of Public Information, will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Brothers will replace Katie Towns-Jeter as she moves into a new position dealing with chronic disease management. "We would like to thank Towns-Jeter for a job well done while serving as our PIO. Her hard work, dedication and professionalism have been an asset to our department. We are looking forward to working with her in a new capacity," says Kevin Gipson, Director of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
The department is thrilled to have Brothers join the team as work continues toward making Springfield a healthier, happier place to live. "The addition of Mike Brothers to our staff team at the health department will allow us to continue to meet the health information needs of the community and focus our attention on emerging health trends. His expertise will be a benefit to the department as well as the community," says Gipson.
Brothers has spent the past four years working for the City of Springfield's Department of Public Information, and served as Co-Interim Director of that department for the past 18 months. Prior to working for the City, Brothers spent seven years as a features reporter and columnist for the Springfield News-Leader. Originally from Hannibal, Mo., he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Missouri State University.
"I am excited to join the Health Department during a time when our personal health and healthcare issues are at the forefront of public discourse," Brothers said. "Though I'm shifting roles, I am also very happy to be staying with the City. Overall, our ship is heading in the right direction."
