Ceremony to Honor Veterans, Dedicate Monument

The City of Springfield will hold a short ceremony honoring City employees and retirees who have served in the United States Armed Forces at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011. The ceremony will be held near the flagpoles at the entrance to the Public Works Operations Center, 1111 W. Chestnut Expressway.

The ceremony will specifically honor veterans who are City employees or retirees, but the event is open to the public and the media is invited to attend.

The event will consist of the dedication of a granite monument, a moment of silence and remarks from Mayor Pro-tem Bob Stephens, City Council military veterans Tom Bieker, Doug Burlison, Jerry Compton, Nick Ibarra, City Manager Greg Burris, and Deputy City Manager Fred Marty.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held inside the Transportation Management Center, adjacent to the monument site.
