Groundbreaking for Special Needs Playground

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board and the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Springfield will celebrate the groundbreaking at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Jenny Lincoln Park for a new universal style playground.

In 2008, the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Springfield met with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board to discuss building an accessible playground at Jenny Lincoln Park. The universal style playground proposed by the Kiwanis Club is designed for children with special needs, including wheelchairs, and children who do not have any special considerations.

The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Springfield, a 40-member group, has raised $100,000 for the installation of this universal style playground for Jenny Lincoln Park which will break ground tomorrow. The Kiwanis Club is a service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children.
