Police Investigate Fatality Wreck

At 9:25 a.m. today, members of the Springfield Police Department responded to an injury crash at the intersection of Kearney and Broadway. The crash occurred as a westbound vehicle operated by Dustin E. Grimes, age 20, of Springfield, Mo. and an eastbound vehicle operated by Lee Andy Clayton, age 59, of Springfield, Mo. hit nearly head on in the intersection. Clayton’s vehicle was making a left turn onto northbound Broadway and failed to yield to the oncoming westbound vehicle operated by Grimes. There was one passenger in each vehicle. All parties were transported by EMS to local hospitals. Clayton was pronounced dead a short time later. Grimes and the passengers from both vehicles were being treated for non life threatening injuries. The Springfield Police Department’s Crash Team responded to conduct the investigation. Speed may have been a factor in the incident and the investigation continues. Next of kin have been notified.
