Three Police Officers Graduate Lateral Officer Academy
Three police officers who attended the Lateral Hire Academy will graduate tomorrow and will soon be taking patrol positions within the Springfield Police Department. The graduation is on Friday, Jan. 27 at
5 p.m. in the Springfield Police Headquarters gymnasium.
Michael Ramsey grew up in the Springfield area, and is a graduate of Ash Grove High School. He has also attended Central Methodist and Missouri State Universities then completed his first police academy at Drury University. He has 4½ years of police experience with the Bolivar Police Department.
Taylor Bolton grew up in the Springfield area and is a graduate of Willard High School. Taylor enlisted in the United States Army Reserve as a military police officer in 2003. Taylor has served two tours overseas, both in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Taylor currently holds the rank of Staff Sergeant in the US Army Military Police Corps. Taylor recently received his Associates in Law Enforcement from Drury University and has served as a police officer for over 4 years with the Bolivar Police Department.
Jim Cooney is originally from Boynton Beach, Florida and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University. He played minor league baseball for three years after college and has 5½ years of experience from the Boynton Beach Police Department in Palm Beach, Florida.
The graduates went through a condensed four week academy and will train with an FTO for six weeks prior to release as a patrol officer.
