Victim Identified in Severed Arm Discovery

On Monday 02/06/12, officers with the Springfield Police Department were called to the 1700 block of N. Kansas for the recovery of an arm found by Burlington Northern Railway employees along the tracks near that location.

Upon arrival, officers found a severed left arm with no other indications of foul play at the scene. After a thorough investigation, the Greene County Medical Examiner's office requested assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol's forensic laboratory where a fingerprint analysis was conducted. The prints identified 29 year old William E. Escudero of Libby, Montana.

According to information obtained from the local Sheriff's department there, Escudero stepped in front of a train at that location, taking his own life. The arm appears to have been possibly caught in the undercarriage of the train and was not initially located when officers conducted the initial investigation.
