For Immediate Release
Watercolor Now! Exhibit Opens May 5
The Springfield Art Museum announces the opening of Watercolor NOW! 2012 on 5 May 2012.
This member's invitational exhibition will showcase work by members of the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society (WHS). The exhibit will feature 67 works by 67 artists from across the country painting in aqueous media.
WHS is an independently governed, not-for-profit organization. It was formed in 1985 from a broad based assemblage of inventive artists whose paintings had won awards in Watercolor U.S.A. or who had served as jurors to the exhibition. Membership in the Society is based on either receiving a juror-designated award from the Watercolor U.S.A. exhibition, having a work purchased for the Springfield Art Museum from the exhibition or having served as a juror for the exhibition.
The mission of WHS is to focus national attention on the Springfield Art Museum as a repository for conserving, preserving, and collecting watercolor painting. WHS also endeavors to cultivate and promote an interest in watermedia painting via the Watercolor U.S.A. exhibition.
The Springfield Art Museum hosts Watercolor NOW! every four years; previous exhibits were held in 2008, 2003 and 1997. A small catalogue of the exhibition will be available. Most of the paintings are available for sale.
A reception will be held, in conjunction with the opening of Watercolor U.S.A. 2012, on 8 June from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., hosted by the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates.
Watercolor NOW! 2012 will continue through 8 July 2012. Download a representative sample of the exhibit. (pdf)
