Suspect Charged in Area Robberies
Dale Barkfelt, 33, has been arrested and charged with the March 30th robbery of the Family Dollar store, 1825 W. Grand, and the April 5th robbery of the Dollar General store, 1726 S. Kansas Expressway. He is currently being investigated as a suspect by the FBI for the recent robbery of the Great Southern Bank, 1615 W. Sunshine on April 9th.
On 04/09/2012, the Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) reviewed several surveillance photographs of the suspect from the bank robbery of the Great Southern Bank. CAU recognized similarities from surveillance photos of a prior robbery at the Family Dollar store on 03/30/2012. A possible first name and last initial of Dale B. was provided by officers who may have had contact with this person in the past. Further research by CAU, developed the full name of Dale Barkfelt, a local transient known to reside in the area of the robbery locations.
Uniform Patrol officers followed up on leads of his possible location and responded to the bridge south of Walnut on Kansas Expressway, finding Barkfelt hiding underneath. He was arrested for a municipal warrant, and was later charged with the robberies of Family Dollar and Dollar General.
