Suspect Arrested for Two Armed Robberies
The Springfield Police Department has arrested Sherry Melton, age 51, in connection with two robberies that occurred on April 23, 2012.
At 11:06 a.m., the SPD received a call of a robbery at the DEALS store located at 1844 S. Campbell. According to witness information, Melton entered the store, displayed a weapon and demanded cash from the cashier. She was not successful in obtaining any cash, and then left the store in a 1994 Jeep Cherokee.
The SPD then received a second robbery call, approximately three minutes later at the Thai Peppers Restaurant, located at 1411 E. Sunshine. Information obtained from witnesses indicated that Melton entered Thai Peppers, displayed a weapon and demanded cash from an employee. She was again unsuccessful and left the business in the same Jeep Cherokee vehicle.
SPD Officers and Detectives located Melton near Glenstone and Cinderella. She was taken into custody without incident. Melton was booked into the Greene County jail on 1st Degree Robbery and on a warrant for stealing.
Charges are pending with the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.
