Mariachi Band from Tlaquepaque Tours Springfield
Musicians from Springfield's sister city, Tlaquepaque, Mexico, will bring authentic Mariachi music to several Springfield schools this week before their headline performance at the 8th Annual ArtsFiesta! Friday evening.
Mariachi Viva Xalisco will perform at:
- Rountree Elementary, 1333 E. Grand St. — Thursday, May 3, 9:10 a.m.
- Immaculate Conception, 3555A S. Fremont Ave. — Thursday, May 3, 11 a.m.
- Weller Elementary, 1630 N. Weller Ave. — Thursday, May 3, 1:15 p.m.
- Drury University, The Commons at Findlay Student Center — Friday, May 4, noon
Members of the media interested in seeing the band prior to Friday's ArtsFiesta! are encouraged to attend one of these performances or to attend the band's Friday 4:15 p.m. sound check at Founders Park.
ArtsFiesta! returns to downtown Springfield's Founders Park Friday evening, 6-9 p.m. with Mariachi Viva Xalisco and special guest, Sheila Rios. The event also includes Mexican folkloric dance performances from Branson's Grupo Libertad and free games for children. Concessions and souvenirs from Tlaquepaque are available for purchase.
Founders Park is at 330 E. Water St., at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Water in downtown Springfield. Admission to ArtsFiesta! is $5; children age 10 and younger are admitted free. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy a full evening of events.

Mariachi Viva Xalisco will also appear at Arts Fest on Historic Walnut Street at noon Saturday, May 5.
