Police Investigating a Homicide

The Springfield Police Department is investigating a 2nd homicide for 2012. Officers responded to a call of shots being fired at 1134 S. Maryland at noon today. Upon arrival, officers found 20 year old Javon L. Carter, from Springfield, in the front yard suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead later in the afternoon. A second individual at the scene was treated for a minor, non-life threatening injury that also appeared to be a gunshot wound.

This homicide is believed to have been the result of an ongoing dispute between several parties who know each other. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

While this shooting took place near the campus of Missouri State University, it was not a random act, and there are no public safety concerns for the school at this time. The SPD Campus Police and MSU Security are aware of the incident.
