Mayor Jim O'Neal Resigns, Effective Immediately

At the conclusion of the May 7 City Council meeting, Mayor Jim O’Neal resigned his post, citing business and personal issues that precluded him from devoting the time needed to continue the office. The City will call a special council meeting tomorrow at noon to administer the oath of office for Mayor Pro Tem Bob Stephens to become Springfield’s next Mayor. O’Neal was in the middle of his second term. He was slated to complete that two-year term in April.
