Construction to Begin at National and Monroe

The City of Springfield will issue the notice to begin construction May 21 for traffic signal installation at the intersection of National Avenue and Monroe Street. This project is needed to accommodate increased traffic volumes that are coming and going from Missouri State University campus on Monroe Street, and to provide pedestrian crossing facilities across National. This project is funded through the 2010-2013 14-cent Sales Tax – Traffic Signal/Traffic Calming Program.

Hartman & Company of Springfield will be performing the work at this intersection, under contract with the City. Construction activities may impact traffic lanes at times throughout construction; however, through traffic will be maintained on National. Monroe Street will be closed for short periods at times throughout the project. Please use caution and drive slowly in this work zone. The traffic signal installation is scheduled for completion in September 2012.
