Police Join Law Enforcement Torch Run

Officers with the Springfield Police Department will be participating in the annual Law Enforcement Torch run, on May 23, 2012. SPD officers will participate in a 17 mile leg of the run, which will start at James River Freeway and Hwy 60 (Sunshine). The run will conclude at Kearney and I-44. Officers with the SPD support the Special Olympics throughout the year by campaigning to raise awareness and funds for the event.

The Torch Run began over 30 years ago in Kansas City, and is held in 50 states and 46 countries from around the world. Each year, nearly 200 agencies and 6,400 officers from Missouri, volunteer their time in support of the Special Olympics and the athletes that participate in the games.

The Special Olympics games will be hosted from May 29th – June 1st, in Columbia, Mo.
