Police Sergeant Andrew Barksdale Earns Patriot Award

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced today that Sergeant Andrew Barksdale, Patrol Sergeant, Springfield Police Department, will be honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of its employees and family members of those that serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

At 10:00 a.m. on May 23, 2012 the "Patriot Award" ceremony will be conducted at the Springfield Police Department Headquarters, during a special ceremony, at 321 East Chestnut Expressway, Springfield. The media is invited to attend the ceremony.

Andrew Barksdale was nominated for being highly supportive of the military Reserve Component members and their families by Dawn Davis, Police Officer with the Department. Davis is a Sergeant with the 1107th TASMG, 2501 Lester Jones Ave, Springfield. Sergeant Barksdale will be recognized for the support, respect, and encouragement he demonstrates to his employees, and especially those in the military.

According to Brig. Gen. Tracy (Ret.) Beckette, ESGR Missouri State Chair, "The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation's call to serve.

"Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation's National Guard and Reserve units," as stated by Beckette

As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions with America's borders and beyond, ESGR will continue to be the resource for the employers of citizen warriors. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between employers and service members. More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at, or by calling James Carver at 816-337-8175.
