Homicide Investigation: 1231 W. Edgewood
The Springfield Police Department continues the investigation regarding a decomposed body found at 1231 W. Edgewood. The body was found Monday evening in a trash can in the back yard of the residence and the case is being treated as a homicide.
The remains were identified as human after an autopsy was conducted yesterday afternoon by the State Medical Examiner's office in Columbia. SPD is pursuing investigative leads to determine if the decomposed body is male or female, although the preliminary investigation leads police to believe the remains are that of a female. In addition, the investigation has produced leads as to the possible identity of the victim.
Forensic testing on the remains continues and these comparisons may take several months to complete.
