Assault Suspect Sought By Police

The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has filed 1st Degree Assault charges against a 22-year old Ash Grove man. William Lee Smith is wanted by Springfield Police for an assault that has left a 33-year old Springfield man in critical condition. The assault occurred Saturday afternoon in the 2100 block of N. Kansas Avenue. Police have alleged that Smith struck the victim with his vehicle and then fled the scene. The incident is related to a domestic disturbance in Ash Grove that occurred on Saturday.

Smith left the scene of the assault driving a silver 1990's Honda Prelude with a black hood. The vehicle has a black aftermarket front end with ground effects with chrome rims. The vehicle does not have a license plate, but does have a temporary paper tag. Smith is a 5-8, 175 pound white male. Anyone with information regarding Smith or the vehicle is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 864-1810 or 869-TIPS.

The charges announced herein are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
