National Avenue and Monroe Street Signal Turned On

City of Springfield signal crews turned on the new traffic signal at National Avenue and Monroe Street to flashing operation. The signal will flash yellow on National Avenue and red on Monroe Street.

Final construction activities including pavement striping, and cleanup will continue into August.

On Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, the new traffic signal will switch to full operation. Message signs will be placed on National Avenue in advance of the new signal to notify approaching motorists that the signal will be turned on Aug. 13, 2012.

This signalization project is needed to accommodate increased traffic volumes that are coming and going from MSU campus on Monroe Street and to provide pedestrian crossing facilities across National. This project is funded through the 2010-2013 1/4-cent Sales Tax – Traffic Signal/Traffic Calming Program. Hartman & Company is the contractor for the project.
