Homicide Investigation - UPDATE
On July 30th, 2012 at 10:06 am officers were dispatched to 1721 S Fremont for a check the well being call at that location. Family members and co-workers were concerned due to an uncharacteristic absence from work. Co-workers checked the residence and found stacked up newspapers and mail, along with both cars in the driveway.
Upon arrival, officers found two deceased subjects; Jason Nickols, 41 yoa and his wife Doris Nickols, 51 yoa inside the residence. Officers immediately cleared the home and secured the scene for the Criminal Investigation Section who are currently treating the case as a homicide.
An autopsy is scheduled for later today and the investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE – The follow-up criminal investigation, forensic evidence at the scene, and results from the autopsy examination indicate the incident at 1721 S. Fremont was a homicide followed by a suicide. Doris Nickols suffered from three gunshot wounds including two fatal shots. Jason Nickols died from what appears to be a single, self inflicted gunshot to the head. The murder weapon was seized at the scene, and no other suspects are being sought at this time. The victims were involved in ongoing domestic disputes according to family members, associates of the victims, and neighborhood witnesses which may have been a contributing factor to the shootings.
The investigation is continuing.
