Drive Sober Conference

The Springfield Police Department, along with MO highway safety officials, local law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency responders, public health departments, district attorneys and many others from Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma will join forces for a media event at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the hotel ballroom at the Downstream Casino and Resort, located along Interstate 44 at the Missouri/ Kansas/Oklahoma state line.

The event, sponsored by the Green Country (Okla.) Safe Communities group, will kick off the states' participation in the nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" mobilization, which takes place Aug. 17 through Sept. 3.

Media representatives from all four states are encouraged to attend. Reporters will have the opportunity to interview speakers and emergency personnel.

Promptly after the news conference, lunch will provided by the Downstream Casino for all attendees.

In 2010, more than 10,000 people were killed in U.S. highway crashes involving a driver or motorcycle rider with an illegal blood alcohol level of .08 or higher, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
