For Immediate Release

Dog Swim Sept. 4, DogFest Sept. 22

Man's best friend is the focus of two special Parks events in September.

Dog Swim IX takes place Tuesday, Sept. 4, 4-7 p.m. at Fassnight Pool, 1300 S. Campbell Ave. This is the only event of the year where canines of all shapes and sizes are invited to dive and dog paddle in a public pool.

Proof of vaccination is required for Dog Swim. Pre-registration is strongly recommended, but on-site registration is available. Registration is $8 per dog and owner. One dog per owner is allowed. Additional humans are $3, but no humans are allowed in the pool. All proceeds benefit Cruse Dog Park, Springfield's first off-leash dog park.

DogFest returns Saturday Sept. 22, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Chesterfield Park, 2511 W. Republic Road. Everyone, including the family dog, is invited for free fun, activities and the Canine Vendor Village. Don't miss the always entertaining 8th Annual Dachshund Dash. Heats take place throughout the day, culminating with the Best of the Best and Best of the Worst races around 2 p.m.

Pre-registration is required by Sept. 14 for hounds partaking in the Dachshund Dash, which is limited to, yes, Dachshunds. Race registration is $15. All other activities are free. All proceeds benefit Cruse Dog Park.
