Town Hall Meeting on Marijuana Initiative

Springfield City Councilman Doug Burlison and Maranda Reynolds, petition organizer for an initiative to lessen penalties for those found with small amounts of marijuana, will host a town hall meeting 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24 in the Story Hour Room at the Library Center at 4653 S. Campbell.

"We would like to have a fuller discussion of the initiative proposal, and get additional feedback from the community," Burlison explained.

The initiative requests an amendment to an existing ordinance that lessens penalties for misdemeanor possession (35 grams or less) amount of marijuana. The most severe penalty would be a fine up to $150. City Council is expected to vote Monday, Aug. 27 on whether or not to pass the ordinance or send it to the ballot in November.

For more information, media may call Doug Burlison at 417-569-8391.
