Police Investigate Fatality Accident

The Springfield Police are investigating a fatality crash that occurred on 08/26/2012 at 2:23 p.m. at the intersection of Fremont and Brower. The crash occurred as a 2000 Ford Taurus, driven by Christina Harrison, age 31, of Springfield Mo, was southbound on Fremont, and a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by Michael Scott Lewis, age 30, of Springfield Mo, was westbound on Brower.

Just prior to the crash, Springfield Police had attempted to stop Lewis for a traffic violation at Chestnut Expressway and Glenstone. Lewis fled from the officer at a high rate of speed, however the officer did not pursue Lewis, but put the information out to other units in the area. As Lewis traveled west on Brower, he did not stop for the stop sign at Fremont and struck Harrison's vehicle in the driver's side as he entered the intersection. Both vehicles caught fire and Lewis was killed on impact. A resident in the area heard the crash and rendered aid, removing her from the vehicle. Harrison was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of Joplin Mo, on 08/17/2012. Springfield Police continue their investigation and the next of kin have been notified.
