Afternoon Fire Results in Fatality
A 39-year-old man died as a result of a midday fire at 1300 W. Walnut. The Springfield Fire Department was dispatched at 12:31 p.m. Ronald G. Moore, Jr., was on the second floor of the home when crews arrived within minutes to find the front porch fully engulfed in flames, heavy fire in the front of the house, and heavy smoke throughout.
Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control; however, the fire resulted in significant damage to the structure.
A second person in the home was able to escape by jumping from a second floor window. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Springfield Fire Marshal's office.
