Update on Possible Abduction 12-43641

On 10/16/2012, officers were called to the vicinity of Missouri and Nichols by a citizen who believed she saw something being placed into the cab of a small truck, which then left the area. The caller also identified a bicycle which was in the road where she believed the truck to have stopped. Officers responded to the area and searched neighboring streets and schools in an attempt to identify a child who could possibly have gone missing.

After further investigation, the owner of the bicycle been identified and is not in danger. The owner is a 13-year-old student at Pipkin Middle School, which is located nearby at 1215 North Boonville Avenue. The bicycle was stolen from the bicycle rack at Pipkin Middle School at 08:40am on 10/16/2012, which is approximately one hour before the call came in on North Missouri Avenue. No missing person reports related to this incident have been received.

The theft of the bicycle was recorded by video cameras at the school. Still images from that video are attached. Investigators are asking for assistance in identifying the individuals in these images. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 864-1810 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 869-TIPS (869-8477).
