City Ceremony to Honor Veterans

The City of Springfield will hold a short ceremony honoring City Council members, City employees and retirees who have served in the United States Armed Forces, at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. The ceremony will take place near the flagpoles at the entrance to the Public Works Operations Center, 1111 W. Chestnut Expressway.

A granite monument there was dedicated in 2011. The monument has the seals of the five branches of service on the back and, on the front, the inscription:

As a tribute to all veterans, the City of Springfield
dedicated this Flag Plaza November 10, 2011.
"All gave some; some gave all". God bless America.

Mayor Bob Stephens, Councilman Doug Burlison, Deputy City Manager Fred Marty and City Manager Greg Burris are slated to speak.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held inside the Transportation Management Center, adjacent to the monument site.

The event is open to the public and the media is invited to attend.
