Fire Department Receives 84 Smoke Alarms

The Springfield Fire Department has received 84 smoke alarms with the help of a grant from the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Mount Vernon Street and CODE 3 Sertoma Club. Springfield firefighters will distribute the smoke alarms as part of their smoke alarm campaign. Through the campaign, each Springfield homeowner is eligible for one free smoke alarm.

In addition, the Springfield Fire Department will receive 10 smoke alarms for hearing-impaired residents. These smoke alarms are louder than traditional alarms and also have a strobe light to help awaken sleeping homeowners.

Lowe's and Champion Safety are providing the smoke alarms at a discounted price to maximize the grant dollars.

A check presentation will take place on at 4:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, at Springfield Fire Headquarters, located in Historic City Hall at 830 N. Boonville in Springfield. Media are invited to attend.
