Fire Technician Receives National Recognition
The Springfield Fire Department is proud to announce that heavy equipment technician, Shaun Sigrest, has been named FIRE CHIEF'S 2012 EVT of the Year. Sigrest was selected for the honor over hundreds of applicants and 5 finalists from across the country.
Sigrest oversees the safe operation of Springfield's twenty front line fire apparatus and three reserve companies. Sigrest is certified and trained as an ASE Master Truck and Master EVT level. He is currently the only mechanic operating a three bay fire shop. Shaun's workload is tremendous, and he does a tremendous job in prioritizing and completing a large volume of work and ultimately, helping to keep fire crews safe on the road. "Shaun ensures that he operates within the scope of his training and within the safety guidelines and best practices for his profession," said Assistant Chief of Operations David Pennington. "The SFD could not operate as safely and efficiently if it weren't for Shaun. I cannot express my profound gratitude for his hard work and support of the SFD, the City of Springfield, and our customers."
Sigrest was presented the award of 2012 EVT of the Year at the Fire Department Safety Officers Association's 25th annual Apparatus Specification and Vehicle Maintenance Symposium last month, in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
