For Immediate Release
Mike Carroll Appointed to Vacant Council Seat
City Council selected Mike Carroll to fill the vacant General D seat. Thomas Bieker resigned from the seat last November due to a move outside the city limits. Council members are required to have a residence inside the city.
Carroll was one of three finalists interviewed at a noon meeting Feb. 11, and will take his oath of office at the regularly scheduled meeting, 6:30 p.m. tonight in Historic City Hall.
He is the Controller for Andy's Frozen Custard, a position he's held since August, 2011. He has a law degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia.
The City will now ask a judge to remove his name from the April 2 ballot, where he had planned to run for General Seat B, if he were not appointed today. That leaves the General Seat B race to Craig Hosmer, who will now run unopposed.
Mayor Bob Stephens and Zone 1 Councilman Jeff Seifried will also run unopposed, but voters will have options in two other City Council races.
- Zone 4: Craig Fishel, Rodney Geurin, Steve Makoski (replacing outgoing Councilman Scott Bailes, who is not seeking a second term)
- General A: Jan Fisk, Arthur Hodge Sr.
