National Hockey Tournament at Mediacom Ice Park

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board's Mediacom Ice Park and the Missouri State Ice Bears host the 2013 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 National Championships Tuesday, March 12, through Saturday, March 16.

Sixteen college hockey teams from across the country will compete in the tournament, representing the best of more than 150 teams in the ACHA Men's Division 3.

"This tournament is the March Madness of ACHA Hockey," said Al Valdivia, Hockey Director at Mediacom Ice Park. "The top Division 3 teams from across the nation will be in Springfield competing for a national title, giving our community a rare opportunity to see this level of play in person."

This is one of the largest hockey tournaments hosted at Mediacom Ice Park in the facility's 11-year history. About 500 players, coaches and staff involved in the tournament will be staying overnight in Springfield hotels, eating in area restaurants and shopping with retailers, contributing to the estimated $13-15 million economic impact sports tournaments bring to Springfield every year.

ACHA Division 3 Tournament play takes place Tuesday through Thursday at Mediacom Ice Park, with four matches a day, morning through evening. Semifinals are Friday, with games starting at 12:30 and 1 p.m., and finals are at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Jeff Cumley, Jordan Valley Park Manager, encourages the community to take interest in the tournament.

"Hockey on TV is great, but it's just phenomenal to watch a game in person," said Cumley. "You can see it, hear it and feel it. The excitement of the crowd, the thrill of the competition — it's just unbeatable!"

Tickets are available at Mediacom Ice Park, 635 East Trafficway, in downtown Springfield's Jordan Valley Park. Half-day passes, semifinals and finals tickets are $10, and $15 Day Passes and $45 Tournament Passes also available, while supplies last. Children age 2 and younger are free.
