"Walk Springfield" Partners Highlight Easily-Accessible Walking Paths

WHAT: Springfield community partners will gather for a walk and an important announcement on National Walking Day – Wednesday, April 3. Walk Springfield, a local initiative, has created 30 newly-designated walking paths with tools to help the public identify details of each path using their smartphone. Path details will be unveiled for the Springfield community as part of the announcement. The event includes a walk on one of the new paths, now known as Jordan Valley Park & Greenway. Representatives from local businesses and other community partners will participate.

WHERE: Jordan Valley Maintenance Office – 625 E. Trafficway – Springfield, MO

WHY: National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 3 provides a unique platform to encourage the public to embrace a healthier lifestyle through walking, which has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity. This is the day that adults nationwide are encouraged to make the pledge to start walking and become heart-healthy. Just 30 minutes of physical activity each day can improve heart-health. The 30 special walking paths chosen by community partners are designed to make physical activity more convenient and accessible, while encouraging the public to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Each special path will be marked with new signage that provides walkers with an opportunity to use their smartphone to learn more details about that path.
