Urban Warrior Challenge Affects Downtown Parking
A few areas downtown will be affected as Springfield hosts the Springfield Urban Warrior Challenge Sunday, April 7, beginning at 7 a.m. at Missouri State University's Plaster Field.
The 12.4K race includes obstacles throughout campus, downtown and Center City, testing participants' endurance, speed and agility. Though obstacle details are not revealed until race day, the potential route map includes obstacles at the Jordan Creek box culvert, Park Central Square and the College Station and Heer's parking garage.
College Station Parking Garage: The garage will close at 2 a.m. Sunday morning and will not reopen until 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. No vehicles will be allowed in or out of College Station Car Park until after 1 p.m. on Sunday. By Section 106-440 in the City of Springfield Code of Ordinances, it is illegal to park overnight in the garage. Any vehicles remaining in the garage after 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, are subject to fines and towing.
Heer's Parking Garage: The top level (5th floor) of the garage will be closed for parking at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and will reopen at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. Any vehicles remaining on the 5th floor of the garage between 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday will be subject to towing.
According to Springfield Police Department, roadways will be fully open to traffic at all times, except for a small stretch of northbound Campbell Avenue downtown for a small time during the race.
