For Immediate Release
Party for the Planet April 27
The annual Earth Day celebration at Dickerson Park Zoo, Party for the Planet, will be Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Children can participate in activities that demonstrate how recycled items can be reused and transformed. Children will plant herb gardens in recycled tin cans and make egg-carton caterpillars. Parents will enjoy watching their children color the materials needed to make "Shrinky-Dink"-like jewelry pendants (complete with instructions for finishing the baking process at home).
Party for the Planet is a nation-wide Earth Day celebration hosted by zoos and aquariums accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. Dickerson Park Zoo was most recently reaccredited in 2012.
Dickerson Park Zoo is open throughout the summer, daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., regardless of the weather. Admission fees are $9 for adults and teens and $6 for children ages 3-12 and seniors 60 and older. Admission for children age 2 and younger and DPZ Friends of the Zoo members is free.
