Park Board to host Southwest MO Senior Games
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board hosts the Southwest Missouri Senior Games Wednesday, May 29, through Sunday, June 2. Events will be held at the Northview Center in Doling Park, 301 East Talmage, Springfield, with some at outlying facilities.
The Southwest Missouri Senior Games promotes fun sports and recreation for residents of southwest Missouri and throughout the region, ages 50 and up. The event serves as preparation for the Missouri State Senior Games held June 13-16 in Columbia.
The Olympic-style games offer competitive events in:
- electronic darts
- table tennis
- washer toss
- track and field
Competitors are divided by the ages 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80+ for most events, although some competitions are further divided by five-year increments. Some events are also divided by gender. First, second and third place medals will be awarded to winners in each event.
Registration is required and costs $10. The registration form and aschedule of events are available at www.parkboard.org/northview/senior_games and may be mailed to SMSG, 301 E. Talmage, Springfield, MO 65803, or dropped off at the Northview Center. Athletes may also register until 30 minutes prior to each event, if space is available. Spectators are invited to watch all events as well.
