Severe weather plans for Saturday's Senior Games

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board plans to proceed with Saturday's Southwest Missouri Senior Games outdoor Track and Field events, weather permitting.

Track and Field events are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at Harrison Stadium, 900 N. Summit Ave. Games will be postponed for 30 minutes in the event of heavy rain or lightening. However, any postponement after noon will force cancellation of remaining events at Harrison Stadium.

Shot Put and Discus events are planned at Silver Springs Park,1100 N. Hampton Ave., immediately after the conclusion of events at Harrison Stadium, no later than 12:30 p.m. Again, games will be postponed for 30 minutes in the event of heavy rain or lightening.

"If it's just a light rain, we'll go ahead, but we won't hold the games during lightening or severe weather," said Sheri Davis, Community Recreation Coordinator at the Northview Center. "Safety for our athletes and staff will take priority in our scheduling."

The Southwest Missouri Senior Games began Wednesday, May 29, and wrap up Sunday, June 2, with Cycling events. The games promotes fun sports and recreation for residents of southwest Missouri and throughout the region, ages 50 and up, and serve as preparation for the Missouri State Senior Games held June 13-16 in Columbia.
