Suspect arrested, charged in shooting

At 2:51 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, Springfield police responded to the parking lot of a convenience store at 1313 West Battlefield Road in reference to reports of a male subject who appeared to have been shot in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers contacted one male victim who was lying on the ground bleeding and unresponsive. The male was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot wound and remains in critical condition. He has been identified as 35-year-old Mark J. Martin of Springfield.

A suspect description as well as a description of the suspect vehicle was obtained from witnesses and surveillance video. Later that morning, detectives located the suspect vehicle at a motel in Springfield and detained the occupants for questioning after they drove away from the motel. One of those occupants, 19-year-old Anthony M. Maenza-Sola of Independence, Mo., was later booked into Greene County Jail on a charge of First Degree Assault.

The case was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office and charges of First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon were filed against Maenza-Sola with a bond of $300,000.

The charge announced herein is merely an accusation and Maenza-Sola is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
