SFD issues four tickets for illegal fireworks on July 4

Springfield fire marshals wrote four tickets to residents illegally setting off fireworks within the Springfield city limits on July 4. Three were the result of complaints, and the fourth was issued following a building fire caused by fireworks. The fire destroyed a shed on the 700 block of North Hillcrest. No one was injured in the fire. The remaining fireworks were seized from each of the locations.

As the holiday weekend winds down, the Springfield Fire Department would like to remind residents that fireworks are illegal within the city limits of Springfield. Novelty items, such as sparklers, poppers and snakes are allowed, but should be used with caution. Children should never be allowed to handle any of these items.
