Checkpoint results in arrests, recovered vehicle
The Springfield Police Department, with assistance from the Greene Co. Sheriff's Department, conducted a sobriety checkpoint last night in the 2200 block of E. Sunshine. A total of 541 motorists were contacted during the 5 hours the checkpoint was in operation. Five drivers were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, two for Driving While Suspended/Revoked, six warrant arrests, two drug arrests, and two other charges. One stolen vehicle was recovered with a resulting arrest of the driver.
The checkpoint was funded through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Safety.
Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of driving privileges, sentencing to use ignition interlocks and increased insurance rates. Financial losses include attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work and the potential loss of a job.
Drunk driving is not worth the consequences – remember, if you drink and drive, you lose.
