Springfield Lasers headed to playoffs
The Springfield Lasers beat the Boston Lobsters 23-15 in Boston Monday night, earning the Lasers a place in the Mylan WTT Western Conference Championship Match on Thursday, July 25. The Lasers are leading the Western Conference at 8 wins, 4 losses.
The Lasers will face the Texas Wild in the playoffs. The Lasers beat Texas 20-18 in a hotly contested match here in Springfield July 15. Texas, now standing at 8wins, 5 losses, is a half game behind Springfield. Texas has one more regular season match Wednesday, while the Lasers play both tonight at home against Sacramento and Wednesday in Orange County.
The location of the playoff match has yet to be determined. To bring the playoff match to Springfield's Mediacom Tennis Stadium at Cooper Tennis Complex, the Lasers need a win tonight, or a win tomorrow, or (preferably) a win at both matches. A Texas loss Wednesday would also bring the match to Springfield.
The Lasers have had a stellar season, including a 22-15 win over defending champions, the Washington Kastles, on the Kastles' home turf July 11. The Kastles clinched their spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs on Sunday, and currently stand at 10 wins, 2 losses.
Tonight's match against Sacramento Capitals begins at 7:05 p.m. at Mediacom Tennis Stadium at Cooper Tennis Complex, 2331 E Pythian. Tonight features Capitals marquee player Sam Querrey, currently ranked No. 20 in singles and the No. 1 American player on the ATP World Tour.
