Neighborwoods seeks help to plant 200 trees

The City of Springfield is celebrating the 10th year of the NeighborWoods reforestation program, and we need the community's help.

To complete a planting goal of 200 trees this fall, NeighborWoods needs one to two commitments by neighborhood groups or nonprofits to help plant and care for 20-30 trees on City rights-of-way. Program participants agree to water and provide general care for the trees for a minimum of three years. Neighborhood groups and other non-profits qualify to apply. The fall deadline is Aug. 1.

If a group is interested in participating, but can't organize a proposal by the deadline, NeighborWoods is also accepting applications for the spring of 2014. The deadline for spring proposals is Dec. 1.

Those interested can find more information at www.springfieldmo.gov/trees/neighborwoods.html or can contact NeighborWoods Coordinator Troy Powell at 874-2154 or tlpowell@springfieldmo.gov
